Locals donate coats to children in need

The Pikeville Rotary Club dropped off at least 1,000 coats at the Appalachian Center for the Arts on Oct. 12 as donations to the Coats for Kids Foundation. Real estate agent Shirley Blackburn, right, works with several local organizations and businesses to donate hundreds of coats to children in need every year. This year, she said, she and other Coats for Kids volunteers are $2,900 short of reaching their goal of donating about 1,500 additional coats. To donate or for more information, call Blackburn at her AAA Real Estate office, (606) 433-9700.
