Purple Heart parking space unveiled in Pikeville

In a dedication ceremony Sept. 17, a parking space designated for recipients of the Purple Heart decoration was unveiled. “The City of Pikeville is proud of our veterans and all that they’ve sacrificed. We are honored to allow the use of this parking space that is conveniently located for easy access to downtown businesses as a small gesture of our appreciation,” said Pikeville Mayor Jimmy Carter, right, pictured with Veterans of Foreign Wars State Commander Nathan Sesco. The Purple Heart is a United States military decoration given in the name of the President to those wounded or killed while serving on or after 5 April 1917, with the U.S. Military. The parking space is located in front of the Appalachian Wireless Arena. VFW Post 3769, Pikeville, supplied the paint and sign for this parking space to ensure it is given the honor it deserves.
